Quiconnect adds huge hotspot footprint in the USA for its international telecom customers through new Wayport agreement
November, 2008 - Quiconnect today announces that it has signed a new interconnection agreement with Wayport, Inc, one of the world's best-known wireless Internet service providers, to enable its international carrier client base to access select Wayport-operated hotspot footprint throughout North America. Service via Wayport's network is "live" today, with [add carrier name] already connected.
This will provide Wi-Fi access to travellers at over x,ooo hotspots, including hotels across the country operated by leading chains, including Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott Vacation Club, along with shopping malls, restaurants and numerous Hertz airport car rental locations.
Wayport has established itself as one of the few companies specialising in providing both public and private Wi-Fi access over carrier-grade converged network infrastructure so that a range of applications can be run using Wi-Fi enabled devices. In other words, Wayport not only operates Wi-Fi hotspots for people on the move who need Internet access typically via a laptop, but the same network is used to provide its enterprise clients secure (and private) back office services, based on WLAN.
Wayport works with the world's largest carriers including Sprint, Verizon Business, AT&T, a range of network aggregators such as Boingo, Trustive, iPass and Comfone, device manufacturers and enterprise customers, the largest of which is McDonald's Corporation.
Dan Lowden, Wayport's vice president, business development and marketing, says, "Wayport's customers are the commercial entities who use our hotpot infrastructure not the actual subscribers themselves. Partnering with companies like Quiconnect, and capitalising on its carrier relationships, means we can therefore bring more traffic onto our network far faster as individual local agreements don't have to be signed."
Since active interconnections started in 2005, Quiconnect has carved itself a niche as a specialist telecom and network operator systems integrator who has connected some 45 companies to its platform so that wireless broadband roaming among them (and all the associated authentication and inter billing among the operator companies) is managed efficiently. This means that the actual end-user traveller is free to just get Internet access, and be billed by the home service provider, without unnecessary login hassles.
Jeff Mabe, Quiconnect's vice president, sales and marketing, says, "The agreement with Wayport is part of our continual strategy of linking big global networks to our platform so as increase the roaming footprint on behalf of our telecoms customers. With the size of its operation, Wayport becomes a significant partner which will substantially increase our penetration in the USA."
