Connector Utility Software

Having simplified roaming interconnections for Network Operators and Service Providers via our carrier grade Interconnect Management Platform, Quiconnect's 'Connector' client now greatly simplifies the roaming experience for the consumer, whilst still extending your brand and allowing you to control your customer's experience.

Overview

Quiconnect's 'Laptop Connector' is a light weight, user friendly client that complements Quiconnect's sophisticated Roaming Intelligence Server, allowing the end user to connect effortlessly and roam seamlessly over WiFi and WiMAX networks without having to be aware of the many commercial relationships and network configurations behind the software. The Connector System offers an ultra-simple user experience which "pushes" connectivity to your users. As a service provider, this means your customers can easily activate their service and log in to your network or your roaming partners' networks without needing to submit credentials or navigate operator landing pages.
Featuring a unique network-side intelligence model combined with a lightweight client, the Connector gets your users onto the network quickly and easily.

What Benefits Can the Laptop Connector Bring You?

Benfits to the Service Provider:

  • Additional minutes through automated login
  • Extends your brand
  • Stops you losing your customers to other networks

Benefits to the User:

  • Takes the pain out of trying different SSIDs to see if you can get connected

  • Gives users the ability to use their own personal networks
  • A familiar experience everywhere
  • Lightweight, easy-to-install client
  • User friendly interface

How does Connector work?

A small piece of client software is installed on the user's PC, customised by their wireless service provider. This software detects wireless networks within range, identifies those which belong to the home network or participating roaming partners and pushes a message to the user to inform them that connectivity is available.

The user can opt for no-click automated login to the network using their home service provider credentials so no searching through compatibility lists, deciding which network to use or struggling with foreign language login pages is required. The client can always communicate with the server component hosted by Quiconnect and so is always up-to-date with the latest additions to your partner list and the login methods required for each.

The User Experience

  • Detects wireless networks in range and offers to connect if the device is not already connected to the internet and if a suitable network is found.
  • Connects automatically to personal networks.
  • Automates the login and logout procedures for roaming networks.
  • Integrates with account management's interfaces.
  • Low memory and disk footprint
  • Allows manual choice of network for connection

The Laptop Connector is able to offer seamless login/logout at an extensive number and variety of hotspots. Laptop Connector will detect the presence of the roaming network and will offer to log you in and prompts the user to login using the Login and Password credentials supplied by their Service Provider. In addition, the subscriber can opt to automate login by ticking the 'Auto Login' box. This means that whenever they are within range of one of their Service Provider's or a Roaming Partner's hotspot, they will automatically be logged on.

User-Interface

Subscribers can also view the list of wireless networks that do not require web login. Typically, these will be the networks that a subscriber is using at home or at work for example. The WiFi networks and WIMAX networks tabs allow subscribers to view the list of all wireless networks within range. A user can select their preferred network and then click on 'Connect' to get connected.

System Architecture

The Connector System includes the following components:

  • A small Connection Utility installed on the user's PC, comprised of a client utility library and a user interface. This component handles the communication channel between the client device and the hosted network service, and provides connection management functions to the end user through a simple interface, allowing the Service Provider to manage connection behaviour through interaction with the Network Core.
  • The Network Core which is a Quiconnect-hosted network service incorporating the Connection Knowledgebase, storing connection policies, network parameters and roaming service availability. This information is provided to the Connection Utility to control connection behaviour and supply the necessary connection information to allow automated login. It also receives diagnostic reports from clients experiencing login/logout failures. The Quiconnect support team is notified in real time of network issues and can fix connection scripts as needed. The Network Core service is locally and geographically redundant
