Quiconnect plays key role in the FMCA's Inter-Operator Trial of Seamless Authentication and Roaming on Wireless IP Networks.
Quiconnect became an associate member of the Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA) in the summer of 2007. One of our key focus areas has been to help the FMCA in identifying and trialling a standard for seamless authentication and roaming across wireless technologies.
The Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA) is a global, non-profit organisation focused on providing today's and tomorrow's Convergence customers with high-quality, seamless and easy to use products and services. Representing a global base of over 700 million customers who stand to benefit from the development of Convergence products and services, its objective is to ensure, through collaboration with industry, that devices, access points, applications and underlying networks interoperate to deliver the best user experience possible.
In September 2007 Quiconnect was selected to be the intermediary hub for the Seamless Authentication and Roaming trial based on 802.1x authentication. The trial kicked off on December 10, 2007 and currently involves 8 key industry leaders.
Quiconnect is a key player in the trial, which is focused on fundamentally improving the user experience by removing "PIN or passwords" currently required for accessing Wireless Broadband networks with handheld devices. With a well defined set of specifications, test cases and a clear 12 month roadmap, the trial builds on the increased availability of dual-mode devices and the forecast emergence of multi-mode handhelds. Billing and settlement areas will also be addressed.
As part of the FMCA's drive towards a commonly accepted network access authentication policy for convergent handheld devices in industry, it has also initiated collaborations with other leading industry bodies operating in the wireless broadband area.
Quiconnect's CEO Andrew Schultz commented "We are delighted to be able to demonstrate Quiconnect's world-class technical capabilities and our significant expertise in this area through our role in this trial. We are pleased with the speed with which we were able to interconnect all the participating FMCA operators to the Quiconnect platform, and we are excited about the opportunity to validate our capabilities as we help the FMCA's carrier members move toward highly interoperable and profitable convergent services."
