Application providers
The roll-out of new products to take advantage of both Wi-Fi networks and WiMAX networks is just beginning with the arrival of dual mode (cellular and Wi-Fi) phones, wireless-enabled devices such as PDAs, consumer digital media devices, gaming consoles and dedicated Skype Wi-Fi phones.
Quiconnect has developed specialised tools and technology that can be integrated into non-PC devices that make it quick, easy and transparent for users to log on at public hotspots, improving take-up and usage of Wi-Fi functionality of devices and applications.
Quiconnect can help drive usage of the following types of Wi-Fi enabled applications and devices over public hotspots:
Wireless Voice over IP (VoIP)
This is a leading growth area for applications and devices accessing Wi-Fi networks. Both single- and dual-mode devices and applications are appearing on the market at an increasing rate from established players and new entrants.
Quiconnect is working with a number of providers offering devices that do not necessarily have built-in web browsers and keyboards.
Cicero Networks
By using unlicensed wireless networks and VoIP, Cicero enables the delivery of a new range of value added wireless voice services.
Developed specifically for operators and service providers – fixed-line operators, mobile operators, broadband service providers, hotspot operators plus wireless ISPs – Cicero's unique platform-independent solution enables calls to be made from public hotspots, the office and the home, all from a single, mobile device.
Cicero and Quiconnect are working together to provide users with the ability to use CiceroPhone at public WLAN locations

Gaming Applications & Devices
New games consoles have changed the way gamers interact. Built-in Wi-Fi allows these devices to be used on public hotspot networks for multi-player gaming. In 2006, Q3, there were 24 Wi-Fi enabled games on the market.
However, so far the roll-out of Wi-Fi enabled devices has required a lot of configuration work individual networks in each market which is likely to be more expensive than outsourcing this work to the specialists at Quiconnect. In addition, Quiconnect can also provide more functionality and broader roaming capabilities with our specialised roaming offering.
Music
We have seen a proliferation of new digital music players over recent years, with users having to download music to their computers first before transferring it to their portable players. It can be a tedious process.
A wireless connection through Wi-Fi or WiMAX, enabled by Quiconnect, can give a user the freedom to download files more easily and share them with friends, while allowing music distributors a more direct path to their consumers.
Imaging
Digital cameras have dramatically improved the ease with which people can take and distribute pictures. However, often users do not want to wait until they get home to download their shots to their laptop, to upload them to the internet, or they fill up their memory card and cannot take any more photos.
The ability to directly and wirelessly share content within a user’s family or social group, or empty the card for further use without the need for one’s own computer is a key selling point for Wi-Fi embedded cameras. Quiconnect can help the users of these cameras connect to Wi-Fi hotspots now, and WiMAX as devices and networks become available.
